New Spices!

Last Sunday on my way to the Capitol Hill Farmer’s Market I popped into SugarPill to see if they had any new spices.  SugarPill is a dispensary of medicinal & culinary herbs, spices, gourmet salts, chocolates, cocktail bitters & pantry essentials.  They specialize in locally sourced products and Karen has done an amazing job at this Capitol Hill gem.

I found two great spices for (mostly B) to cook with…


The first one is Piment D’Espelette Powder.  Piment D’Espelette is a type of chili pepper that is produced in Espelette in the south of France. In France Piment D’Espelette is typically used as a rub to cure ham.  It has a great sweet and spicy taste and we will defiantly be using it in a number of dishes!

The second spice is a Tandoori Powder.  Most Tandoori Powder’s contain Cayenne Pepper, Ginger, Granulated Garlic, Coriander, Salt, and Paprika. But this also includes Saffron! I cant wait to try some new Indian dishes with this spice!
